Description

V&T Engine #5 sits at the Carson City depot with a short train. This is probably from 1950, during the last year of the V&T's operation. The depot looks deserted; many of the train trips during this time would only have one or two passengers on board.

Source Caption: Another scanned postcard from the scrapbook/photo album that I recently bought at an antique shop in Sacramento. From the back: "Virginia & Truckee R.R. No. 5 brings the last train into Carson City, Nevada. Built by Alco in 1925, the sturdy 2-8-0 served first on the Nevada Copper Belt R.R., going to the V & T in 1947 during the railroads declining years. This historical 3 foot narrow gauge line finally lost out to highway transportation, after almost a century of colorful activity." (I'm pretty sure the V&T was standard-gauge).
