This is Hwy 395 through downtown Gardnerville. One noticeable difference from today is the parallel parking that was still allowed on the street. On the right side of the photo you can see Sharkey's Nugget. On the left is the East Fork Hotel, built in 1893, which by the time of this photo had been closed for two years. At the far left you can just see the edge of the East Fork Club, the bar that kept operating after the hotel closed. On July 24, 1986, the bar burned to the ground, and it was only the efforts of firefighters that prevented the flames from spreading to the hotel next door.
