Source Caption: Northern Nevada Medical Center which will celebrate its 40th Birthday on Saturday opened as Sparks Family Hospital on January 7, 1983. The name was changed in 1994. When it opened, those who made the drive to the east end of Prater Way saw a large building set amid a sagebrush covered hillside with spectacular views of Sparks, Reno, and the Sierra Mountains. Visitors were impressed with the sophisticated muted colors of the décor, the marble lobby floor, and the hospital's early artwork of enlarged black & white historic photos of Reno & Sparks.
