Source Caption: The original Lindy Garage was located next door to the old Senator Hotel (picture here as Wallstab Hotel) near the corner of B Street and 6th Street. Alfredo Antonelli was born in Torre del Lago Puccini, Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1921 at age 17. The Southern Pacific Railroad was his first employer until he earned enough money to open his first Lindy Garage in 1921. He named the business “Lindy” because of the successful historic flight across the Atlantic Ocean by Charles Lindbergh in 1927. In the 1930’s, he relocated the business and a built a new stone building at 1761 B Street that housed Lindy’s Repair Shop which he owned until 1963. Pictured here is Alfredo leaning on a car while chatting to Mr. Oppio and an unidentified man near the gas pumps.
