Description

Looking south on Carson Street in Carson City. The fence at the left surrounds the Capitol Building. The row of buildings beyond the fence was located along Second Street. They were built in the 1860s out of native sandstone. The low building at the corner housed the Carson Daily Appeal, the town's daily newspaper. It had been there since its first printing in 1865. It later moved into larger quarters and was renamed the Nevada Appeal. This row of buildings was all demolished around 1970 to build the Capitol Plaza between the Capitol and the new Legislative Building.

On the right edge of the photo the white facade of the St. Charles Hotel can be seen.
