Remember When: Celebrating the History of Carson City 1858-1950
An advertisement for F.W. Day clothiers is painted on a rock wall in Clear Creek canyon. The sign was painted in 1896 during the Bryan-McKinley election season. It reads "Bryan or McKinley for President, F.W. Day for drygoods, clothing, carpets." It was located along the old Clear Creek wagon road to Lake Tahoe. It's unclear when this picture was taken, as the road seems to be disused and overgrown with weeds but the sign still looks crisp. This particular bend was bypassed when the road was paved for automobiles. Probably the photo was taken after that. The sign has been repainted over the last century, and is still in place on the same rock wall.
