Description

This postcard shows children playing on the Joe. Douglass locomotive, abandoned in California. The Joe. Douglass used to run in the Dayton Valley, hauling ore between Dayton and Sutro, but in 1900 was sold to California to help build the Lake Arrowhead Dam. After construction was complete, the train was put on display on this precarious piece of track nearby. It stayed here for decades until rescued by collectors, and after a convoluted series of owners it found its way back to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.
