Source Caption: Marvelous detail in this c.1920s image of the "Divide House No. 2 wooden firehouse located between Virginia City and Gold Hill, Nevada."Divide Hose Co. No. 2 of the Gold Hill Fire Department was organized September 14, 1885 and was located between Virginia City and Gold Hill near today's Nevada Department of Transportation facility. This volunteer company responded to fires in both Gold Hill and Virginia City with an 1879 four-wheel hose carriage that had originally belonged to Yellow Jacket Engine Co. No. 2 of Gold Hill that had disbanded in 1883, and also had a large two-wheel hose cart in reserve. Divide Hose Company No. 2 continued to responded to fires until its remaining handful of members finally disbanded in 1937."Please see closeup cropped scan provided for additional detail.Photographer : Albert Dressler (1887-1960) renown photographer and copyist of historical California & Nevada images.Provenance : Image derives from the Wyland Stanley Collection of San Francisco historical memorabilia which included thousands of original photographs and antique negatives.
