This photo taken 1876, from hillside just west of the mill site. Fun to enlarge and count the peoplpe posing for their "Portraits"!!!

Fun also to compare these photos with some of series (#1447-1452) in Lawrence and Houseworth Collection, available on line Sons Of California Pioneer website. Alot of changes since the spring of 1872. Possible, C.E.Watkins (he was an employee, before again going out on his own) worked for L. & H. at that time, so these 1876 photos could be "old friends".

The seies of 5 photos (Lawrence and Houseworth) referenced to Society of California Pioneers, is also shown on page 20 of this (wnhpc.com) collection of photos. Note US flag and brand new white flagpole, atop orehouse. in celebration of US centennial in 1876.
