Description

The old Virginia City Water Company barn/County Shop, built in 1872, burning in 1989 or 90 at the Divide Reservoir between Virginia City and Gold Hill.

Photographer notes: I had been over by the building snapping pictures, but moved across the pond because the fire was getting alarmingly close to a huge propane tank, and I wanted to be able to dive into the water if it blew. . . it didn't, but I definitely found the best place to photograph it from (a horizontal version of this appeared on the front page of the Reno paper, for which I was paid their usual nothing).
