The railyards in Reno were just east of downtown. This elevated view shows the Reno depot at the lower left of the photo. The tracks to the left of the depot belonged to the Central Pacific Transcontinental Railroad (which later became the Southern Pacific). The tracks to the right belonged the to Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Reno was the northern terminus of the V&T; from here the tracks headed south towards Virginia City. To the right of the photo you can see the railroad bridge over the Truckee River.
