This view of the Mound House railroad yards was taken in 1937, not long before the line to Virginia City was abandoned. The Mound House depot is prominent in the center of the photo, with the freight house beyond it. The photographer is standing on the grade of the Carson & Colorado Railroad. The tracks for the C&C had been removed years before, when SP bypassed Mound House with the Hazen Cutoff.
A year after this photo was taken, service to Mound House and Virginia City was stopped. The rails were pulled up and everything you see demolished.
