The Hotel Golden in downtown Reno caught fire on April 3, 1962. Six people died and the hotel was damaged beyond repair. This view from the south looks up Center Street, with the Club Cal Neva in the lower left.
The Hotel Golden was rebuilt, and reopened in 1963 still in an unfinished state. But lacking the money to finish the project, they sold the property to Harrah's in 1966, who was able to finish the rebuild, including a 24-story hotel tower above the new casino.
