Description

This photo shows a pair of small locomotives that were used on the construction of the Lake Arrowhead Dam in Southern California. The one on the left seems to be the Joe. Douglass locomotive. The Joe. Douglass used to run in the Dayton Valley, hauling ore between Dayton and Sutro, but in 1900 was sold to California to help build the Lake Arrowhead Dam. After construction was complete, the train was put on display on a precarious piece of track nearby. It stayed there for decades until rescued by collectors, and after a convoluted series of owners it found its way back to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.
