Description

Two Central Pacific Railroad trains at the eastern edge of the Truckee Meadows. This is "Camp 37", close to the present-day location of Vista Blvd in Sparks. This photo looks east; from here the tracks head into the Truckee River Canyon. In 1868 the Transcontinental Railroad was not finished yet, so these trains are likely taking construction materials from California to the end of the track further east, where the crews were working quickly to make it to Utah and connect to the Union Pacific.
