Description

A Central Pacific Railroad train crosses the Truckee Meadows. This is "Camp 37", close to the present-day location of Vista Blvd in Sparks. This photo looks south; in the distance Rattlesnake Mountain can be seen. In 1868 the Transcontinental Railroad was not finished yet, so this train is likely taking construction materials from California to the end of the track further east, where the crews were working quickly to make it to Utah and connect to the Union Pacific.
