Source Caption: It was around 1902 when E.J. "Lucky" Baldwin built " the greatest casino in America". No gambling was not legal, but in the late 1800s and early 1900s Tahoe was still a wilderness so who really cares although when ever a government agent would come the proprietors were warned and all gambling was hidden away. I would like to welcome all the new people to the site. This open group covers not only the Lake Tahoe Basin, but also the areas that helped great Tahoe history which includes both the east and west sides of the Sierras. Our photos tend to be 50 to 100 years old or older and as much as possible we try explain the history of the area where the images originated. Please no advertisement, although public announcements about up coming historical events tend to be acceptable to viewers.
