Source Caption: This historic photograph captures the United Comstock Mines Company building in Gold Hill, Nevada, where it appears they also shared office space with or operated the G & S Mining Company’s "Yellow Jacket" and "Crown Point" mines.

The image, likely from the 1920s, reflects a period when the United Comstock Mines Company was a major player on the Comstock Lode. Founded in 1920 by mining engineers Roy Hardy and Alex Wise, with financial backing from New York businessman Harry Payne Whitney, United Comstock consolidated the Gold Hill section, controlling 5,000 feet of the lode and building the world’s largest cyanide mill at American Flat. Despite its ambitious scale, the operation succumbed to economic pressures and closed in 1924.
