Building the V&T

During the early 1970s, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad was rebuilt in Virginia City along the original right of way. This view shows the track crew installing a switch in the railyard, heading to the new shop. The shop and yard were built on the site of the original roundhouse off of F Street.

This day, we're traveling back to the 1970's & the founding of our railroad with the first track laid in Virginia City since the old V&T tore up the Virginia City Branch in 1939. Today, the shop still stands and now is home to a fleet of 4 steam locomotives and several historic diesels.
