Virginia City Freight Depot

The backside of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad's freight depot in Virginia City. This photo from the 1970s was taken long after the railroad had sold the the depot and it was occupied by a private party. However the railroad history of the site was still alluded to with these two former railroad cars parked out back. The car on the right was a caboose from the Nevada Copper Belt Railroad near Yerington. It was later moved to the town of Goldfield. The car on the left was a caboose from the Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad, #3337. That caboose still sits behind the depot today.

Source Caption: The lighter colored caboose is x Union Pacific 3337, xx Los Angeles & Salt Lake. The 886 number is a street address after the car was detrucked and used as a building. The NCB caboose 2 body spent some time at the now closed Fallon Nevada depot museum before going to Goldfield.
Here's a photo I took in June 1976 of the cars. The white (xUP) car was being repainted boxcar red the last time I saw it.
