U.S. Post Office

A drawing of the Carson City Federal Building on Carson Street, which housed the post office until 1970. Today it is named the Paul Laxalt Building. The V&T Caboose #24 is parked out front, and Southern Pacific Engine #8 is alongside. Both pieces of railroad equipment were displayed at the old Post Office from 1964 until 1975. The caboose is now at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, and the locomotive is on display in downtown Sparks.

Source Caption: Found this in my closet tonight: the Old Post Office. My (maternal) great grandfather Ernest Bath was the Post Master there for many years. Later this building would end up becoming a Federal court house and my (paternal) grandfather was the first Federal District Court Judge in Nevada and this was his court room. My grandfather was John R. Ross. Now, why the building is named after his ex son-in-law/ my uncle (my dad’s sisters ex-husband) is beyond me, lol. Anyhow, pretty fu ny history there. This painting was done by the well known local artist Saar. I love it. The detail work is amazing. See less
