Source Caption: One of the most successful purchases made by the Virginia & Truckee RR was McKeen car #22 purchased in 1910 for $24,000. While this car could not take the grades and curves of the Virginia City line, she was ideal for the run from Reno to Carson City and on to Minden.
Here we see #22 at rest in Reno in the 1930's. She is sitting by the Reno turntable. You can see the single track leading to the one-stall enginehouse.
After more than 30 years of faithful service, #22 was sold in the 1940's for $1,700 for use as a diner in Carson City. She later became part of Al's Plumbing Supply. Al donated her in the early 1980's to the Nevada State Railroad Museum who spent more than 20 years restoring her to operation.
Once again #22 is splitting the Washoe winds in Carson City!
