Vista Airport

Vista Airport was east of Sparks, along what is now Kleppe Lane. Built in 1937, by the 1970s the land was plowed over as an industrial park. Also seen are some seasonal meanders of the Truckee River, a remnant of when this part of the valley would frequently flood. That old river channel is also gone now, though Kleppe Lane still curves through the area, following the old path.

Source Caption: Ted Morrill opened the Vista Airport on October 26, 1937 on the east side of Sparks. The airport's runway ran from east to west with the Truckee River to the south and the Pah Rah Range to the north. The airport became a Civil Air Patrol base during the Second World War as well as a training facility for army pilots. #SpiritofSparks
