Source Caption: Around July 4, 1910, crowds fill East Commercial Row for the "fight of the century" between Jack Johnson (the first black heavyweight champion of the world), and James J. Jeffries (the former undefeated champion who came out of retirement for the fight). A new arena was constructed on Fourth Street for this fight, which was covered by news-wire reporters and motion-picture cameras. Along the south side of East Commercial Row are the White House Clothing Co., the Arcade Bar & Lunch Counter, Louvre Lacey Saloon, Oberon Saloon, the Wine House, H. Leter's Clothing Store, the Elk Hotel, and the Elite Saloon. Across North Virginia Street are R. Herz & Bro. Jewelers and the Stag Inn. See less
