Description

A crowd gathers on Commercial Row in downtown Reno for the Johnson-Jeffries Prize Fight on July 4, 1910. The fight took place east of town along Fourth Street, and spectators took the train and streetcars to get there. Some signs seen along Commercial Row are White House Clothing Co, Arcade Bar, Louvre Lacey Saloon, Oberon Saloon, Wine House Casino, H. Leter's Clothing Store, and the Elk Hotel.

Source Caption: Around July 4, 1910, crowds fill East Commercial Row for the "fight of the century" between Jack Johnson (the first black heavyweight champion of the world), and James J. Jeffries (the former undefeated champion who came out of retirement for the fight). A new arena was constructed on Fourth Street for this fight, which was covered by news-wire reporters and motion-picture cameras. Along the south side of East Commercial Row are the White House Clothing Co., the Arcade Bar & Lunch Counter, Louvre Lacey Saloon, Oberon Saloon, the Wine House, H.
