Looking north on C Street in Virginia City. The Bank of California is on the left side of Taylor Street, and the Banner Bros Clothing is on the right. To the right of that is the Gillig Block hardware store.

Source Caption: C Street, Virginia City, Late 1800s or early 1900s
I first shared this late nineteenth or early twentieth century photograph of C Street in Virginia City in March of 2024, and it is worth returning to again. The view looks north with the International Hotel standing prominently in the background, a familiar anchor in many early photographs of the town.

This image comes from Jeff Stein, one of our page supporters, who kindly gave permission for it to be shared here. Jeff acquired this photograph and others like it about thirteen years ago (15 years today). They are mounted on cloth backing and offer very little formal documentation. There is no known photographer or exact date, only brief handwritten notes along the lower edge. Based on architectural details and street activity, the photo is believed to date to the late 1800s.

For this repost, I made minor adjustments to reduce age related discoloration and bring out finer details while keeping the original character intact. Many thanks again to Jeff for making this piece available and allowing it to be shared with the group.
