Nevada State Railroad Museum: Patrick Allen Collection

The final run of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad was on May 31, 1950. The train was made up of Locomotive #27, Combination Car No. 18, Mail, Express & Baggage Car No. 21, Mail & Baggage Car No. 23, and Caboose #24. Here the train has arrived at the Reno depot in the afternoon.

Onlookers watch No. 27 setting out the last train's boxcar near the Southern Pacific Freight House just short of the Reno depot. The historic Club Harlem is on the right.
