Description

The final run of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad was on May 31, 1950. The train was made up of Locomotive #27, Combination Car No. 18, Mail, Express & Baggage Car No. 21, Mail & Baggage Car No. 23, and Caboose #24. Here the train heads into Washoe City in the morning on its way to Carson City.

Source Caption: The V&T's last southbound train, No. 2, departed Reno on the morning of May 31, 1950. According to the Nevada State Journal, the train departed Reno with little fanfare. Forty passengers were on board according to the Reno Evening Gazette.

The first photo by Audrey Thompson was taken as the train blasted out of Allen Canyon as it nears Washoe City.
