Source Caption: Here the concrete highway through Washoe Valley as one passes from Carson City over Lakeview into the valley taken around 1922 shows a four inch wide black strip down the center of the road as black was considered more visible than white and was safer. It prevented drivers from drifting over. All of these photos of the Nevada Highways were taken by NDOT's Sholeh Moll.
