Source Caption: Tahoe tidbit: I've had some pretty cool and fascinating locals on my morning show, Howie's Morning Rush KRLT 93-9 Radio Lake Tahoe these past 24 years. Every Monday I have a segment I started years ago with long time local, Paula Peterson called, "Lake Tahoe: A Moment in Time" where Paula, (who's president of the Lake Tahoe Historical Society and volunteers at our Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum) offers up historical tidbits about the pioneers who helped shape our area and it's pretty interesting stuff. Before that segment was created I used to have locals on my morning show (some whose families have been here for generations) telling me some pretty remarkable stories about our home up here in the high Sierra. One story that sticks out is when I had long time locals Don Borges and Tom Davis on the show telling me there were actual plans in the late 50s involving Caltrans with plans to build a bridge across the entrance to Emerald Bay on Highway 89 widening it to be a freeway! Man, that's some pretty crazy stuff! That's one of the reasons (and a good one) that several environmental agencies were created to keep a lid on such plans being developed into reality. The Tahoe Keys was an environmental nightmare and it's interesting seeing before and after pictures of that area along the lake. Yes, I have teased a couple of the agencies on my show when it seems like they're reaching a bit like how does putting up a sandwich board for an hour affect invasive species in the lake? In the bigger picture though I think we can all agree that it is important to keep the largest alpine lake in North America as clear and pristine as possible.
