Description

The Lake Valley Railroad was a logging railroad that ran from Bijou at the lake's edge south to the forests around Sierra House. it was part of the Carson & Tahoe, Lumber & Fluming Company, who also operated the railroad from Glenbrook to Spooner Summit. The logs were towed to the Bijou pier where they were dumped into the lake and floated for Glenbrook. The locomotive on the pier was C&TL&F #3, a Baldwin built in 1876.

Source Caption: Charley Lix This is Bijou. Sand Harbor was on the Sierra Nevada Wood & Lumber line near Incline Village. The 'Santa Cruz' operated on the C&TL&F (based on all relevant evidence) line switching the wharf at Bijou. Myrick did mistakenly note that it may have run on the SNW&L, but no corroborating evidence has been found. Myrick was also working from the best information available in the 1960s, his rosters are often a good starting point but not the gospel. Here is a photograph of C&TL&F no. 3 on the Bijou pier taken by Harry Rasmussen in 1900 at the end of operation. See less
