V&T #13 Empire

Virginia and Truckee Locomotive #13, "The Empire". The locomotive was in service until 1931. In 1938 it was donated to the Pacific Coast Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society. The collection of this society formed the core of the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento. In this photo, the locomotive is heading in for restoration, probably in 1981.
