Source Caption: Tahoe Keys, as I remember it in the 1960s when I was a kid at Tahoe Valley Elementary School. It was sold as an upscale Tahoe development, the place to be, but it didn't seem that way to us kids. It was sandy and sterile. The pine trees were far away. The breeze whipped around constantly and blew sand into your eyes. The lots sold gradually during the 1970s, but the Keys seemed to really take off in the '80s, the yuppie years. The lots filled up and most of the sand was covered by manicured sod. The Keys are full of homes, but it is not really "done" yet, not grown in and assumed a natural place in the landscape. Perhaps in another 50 years.
