Description

The Butters Mill was built in Six Mile Canyon east of Virginia City, on the lower slopes of Sugarloaf Peak, around the turn of the 20th century. It was built to process the discarded mine tailings using new technology to try to extract minerals that were left behind during the Big Bonanza years. Built by Charles Butters, the mill operated until the 1920s or 30s.
