Description

This eagle statue is purported to be the same one that was placed on top of Abe Curry's Warm Springs Hotel in the 1860s. When the hotel was converted to the state prison, the eagle was removed and preserved. Late in the mid 20th century it was found on top of the Eagles Lodge building downtown. When that building was demolished for expansion of the Nugget, it was moved inside the new Eagles Lodge on Fifth Street (http://aroundcarson.com/2007/11/26/abe_currys_sandstone_eagle/). When the lodge disbanded in the 2010s, the statue was donated back to the Nevada State Prison, which is in the process of becoming a museum. The eagle will be one of the artifacts on display there.
