A crowd gathers at the Virginia and Truckee depot on Washington Street for the arrival of the train carrying the Merci Boxcar. This boxcar was a thank you gift from the people of France to every state in the Union after the end of World War II. The Safeway at the corner of Carson and Washington can be seen in the background.
