Virginia and Truckee locomotive #24, "Merrimac", was the last locomotive bought by the V&T in the Big Bonanza days of the Comstock. This engine was purchased in 1876 and the mines started to dry up just a couple of years later. The railroad held onto this engine until December 1900, when they sold it to the Verdi Lumber Company. It was soon sold to the Boca & Loyalton Railroad which operated north of Truckee. This photo shows the engine working on that railroad in 1910, along with former V&T coach #7. The engine was scrapped in 1930.
