Description

Virginia & Truckee Locomotive #22 "Inyo" was used in motion pictures after its time on the V&T. In 1969 it was decorated as Central Pacific locomotive #60 "Jupiter", one of the locomotives that had been at the Golden Spike ceremony in 1869. Along with V&T #18 "Dayton" decorated as Union Pacific #119, it was loaded onto a flatcar and toured across the country to celebrate the anniversary of the Golden Spike.

In 1970 these two engines were taken to Promontory Utah, the site where the Transcontinental Railroad was completed, where they were on display for most of the 1970s. Eventually a brand-new replica locomotive was built to be a permanent exhibit, and the Inyo was permitted to return home to Carson City. There it was restored back to its V&T appearance.
