A map of the railroad yards in Mound House, showing both the Virginia and Truckee and the Carson and Colorado tracks. The two lines were two different gauges, which meant freight and passengers had to be transferred by hand from one line to the next because the cars couldn't cross over. This was before 1904, when the C&C was retracked to be standard gauge.
