Description

This postcard looks north on Carson Street from Proctor, right in the heart of downtown. On the right you can't miss the blood-red Silver Spur Casino. The facade and sign must have drawn the attention of everyone driving by. The sign indicates that the casino is under new management.

Next door to the Silver Spur is the Capital Jewelers. Beyond that, at the corner of Telegraph, is the Kit Carson Club, and past that it's hard to make out, but it seems that the Arlington Hotel is missing. That would place this photo after 1966.

Across the street is the Carson Nugget, also an eyecatcher in red and yellow. In front of the Nugget you can see the V&T Caboose #24 sitting in front of the Post Office. The white peaked roof of that building also can be seen.

To the right of the caboose you can see the Kitzmeyer Furniture Factory, the Cash Mercantile Building, and the Sweetland Building. In the Sweetland Building is the Pine Cone Cafe, and hanging at the corner is a sign for the Greeno Hotel, just one block to the east.

Carson Street here has two lane in each direction, but also has on-street parking. The center divider and turn lanes have not been installed yet. The photographer is standing right in the middle of the street, keeping a wary eye on that red van.
