The Hotel Golden in downtown Reno caught fire on April 3, 1962. Six people died and the hotel was damaged beyond repair. As part of the rebuild, they drew up this plan for a 24-story hotel tower atop the new casino. The casino ran into financial trouble and sold to Harrah's, who ended up building this tower in 1968.
