Description

This is the moment that a homemade bomb exploded in Harvey's Casino at Lake Tahoe. This was an extortion attempt that went wrong; the bomb squad accidentally detonated the explosive while trying to disarm it.

Source Caption: August 1980. Harvey's Lake Tahoe. Haven't seen this aerial shot before. My memory is that it was a surreal experience, unbelievable at the time. Something like this probably wouldn't be as weird now as then. Found in the archives of the San Francisco Chronicle.
