Description

This aerial view of Sparks in the 1970s shows the intersection of I-80 and McCarran Blvd. The construction activity is the operation at the Helms Pit. The pit is not very deep yet; later, during the Flood of 1997, the pit would fill in with water and become the Sparks Marina. The land right next to McCarran is now home to Sierra Sid's and Western Village. The wetlands in the back are home to Legends and Wild Island.
