Description

This is the construction of the Southern Pacific Railroad Roundhouse in downtown Sparks, at the intersection of B Street and Pyramid Way. This view looks north at the roundhouse on the left, and the Southern Pacific shops on the right. The roundhouse was removed in 1957; a freeway interchange is on the site now. The shops building still stands.

Source Caption: The Southern Pacific Railroad's 40 stall Roundhouse, Shops and Offices began construction in 1904. Upon its construction the roundhouse was one of the largest roundhouses in the world. The roundhouse was located roughly where the intersection of the Pyramid Way and I-80 is today.
